Social Impact Assessment
As defined by the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), Social Impact Assessment (SIA) includes “the processes of analysing, monitoring and managing the intended and unintended social consequences, both positive and negative, of planned interventions (policies, programs, plans, projects) and any social change processes invoked by those interventions. Its primary purpose is to bring about a more sustainable and equitable biophysical and human environment.” At Le’ Spatial, we understand the intricacies of planned interventions and we have the experience supporting our clients to articulate all the possible risks on a project varying from:
- Likely social and human rights risks for the different stakeholder / right holder groups;
- Contextual, environmental and market risks and effects;
- Programmatic risks; and
- Institutional risks.
We assess these risks from the iteration of the project design and they are ranked by the
likelihood and impact. The SIA will document potential mitigation strategies as well as recommend opportunities to enhance development impact.
